Here I'll be sharing the wealth of knowledge found within the Brady Games guide to the game, along with some of my own observations and possibly those of others from the GameFAQs message board for the game. So without further ado, let's get creating! Or something. ----------------------------------- = = = ITEM CREATION BASICS = = = ----------------------------------- Okay, there's a lot to cover here, so I'll just get right to it. GETTING INTRODUCED TO ITEM CREATION ----------------------------------- When you arrive in the town of Peterny, seek out the Craftsmen's Guild. There you'll meet the lovely Welch Vineyard, and be able to set up shop at the workshop across the street for a modest investment of 1000 Fol. From there you have to set up lines, and then you can get things started. But we'll get there in due time, friends. HIRING INVENTORS ---------------- Thanks to the Compact Communicator you get when you join the Guild, you'll know when new inventors enter the market. Once they do, you can hire them (by paying them a certain amount of Fol or by giving them a special item). Why hire inventors when your party members can create items? Well, unlike your characters, NPC inventors are gifted in one talent and one talent only. Certain sets of items can only be created by certain inventors, and there are some items that can only be created by one inventor. So if you want to be able to create a wide array of items, it's in your best interests to recruit as many of these folks as possible. When you do find the inventor you're looking for, talk to them, give them what they want, then assign them to one of your town workshops. Easy, right? Right. UPGRADING YOUR WORKSHOP ----------------------- Before you can create items, you need to upgrade your workshop. There is only one upgrade required per type of item creation, and you can build up to three production lines (a minimum of one is needed before creation can take place). Here is a list of the upgrades and their prices: -------------------------------- | Facility | Price | -------------------------------- | Cooking | 800 Fol | -------------------------------- | Alchemy | 2000 Fol | -------------------------------- | Crafting | 8000 Fol | -------------------------------- | Compounding | 4000 Fol | -------------------------------- | Smithery | 3000 Fol | -------------------------------- | Writing | 5000 Fol | -------------------------------- | Engineering | 6000 Fol | -------------------------------- | Synthesis | 9500 Fol | -------------------------------- | Line 1 | 1000 Fol | -------------------------------- | Line 2 | 2000 Fol | -------------------------------- | Line 3 | 3000 Fol | -------------------------------- ITEM CREATION MAIN MENU ----------------------- This is the screen you see when you enter your workshop and choose to invent an item. It's laid out as follows: On the top-left of the screen you'll see three choices: Invent- Takes you to the development screen where item creation takes place Expand Workshop Facilities- Allows you to purchase new facilities as shown in the above table. Transfer Inventors- Allows you to transfer inventors from one workshop to another (up to a maximum of six inventors per workshop). Below that menu you'll see the location of the workshop you're in, as well as the facilities available to you. The ones that are available will be in white, while the ones you have yet to purchase will be greyed-out. On the top-right you'll see the three production lines for that shop. Each line will show which characters/inventors are set to work on that line, as well as the type of inventing they'll be performing. Finally, below the production lines, you'll see the other characters/inventors that are available to use in the workshop. THE DEVELOPMENT SCREEN ---------------------- After choosing to the "Invent" option from the main item creation menu, you'll be taken to the development screen. It's laid out as follows: On the top left you'll see a larger version of the pool of characters/inventors from the main item creation menu. To the right of the character/inventor pool, you'll see a list of controls as well as your current Fol. This is very important, so keep an eye on it while inventing! Below all of this you'll see the production lines. The left-most section of each line will show the characters that are set to work on that line (up to a maximum of three). To the right of that is the type of item creation that's going to be used. Next is the "Plan," where you'll decide whether you want to refine an existing item ("Specify Plan") or create an item from scratch ("Original Creation"). Last, and most importantly, is the cost of the item you're trying to create. What item you create depends on the cost. To "reroll" the cost, simply place the cursor over a character and press the X button twice, and the number will change. Use this to get the price you want. THINGS TO REMEMBER: -When using more than one inventor on a line, the person who knows how to create the item will do so, while the other inventor(s) assist him/her. -One person on the line has to have the ability to create the desired item. -The combined talent level of the team members must meet or exceed the talent requirement of the desired item. The more the level is exceeded, the higher the chance of a successful creation. -To be as efficient as possible, use characters who will meet the criteria needed to create the item, but will do so while keeping time and cost as low as possible. THE INVENTION SCREEN -------------------- Once you get your line set up on the development screen and press the square button, it's time to create! This screen is similar to the development screen, though there are some important differences. On the left you'll see the characters' faces. These aren't just there for the heck of it; you use these to determine whether or not an item was created successfully. If an item is created, the characters' faces will show smiles or other such happy things. If it fails, characters will look confused, frustrated, or unhappy. Also, there is a chance that a character will fall asleep on the line, in which case they won't have any influence on production whatsoever. To the right of the faces there are two gauges: the quality gauge and the time gauge. The quality gauge starts out full at the beginning of every production run, and decreases a bit everytime the time gauge is depleted fully. The fuller the gauge, the higher the chance of producing the desired item. The time gauge also decreases, though at a much higher rate; everytime it is fully depleted, the inventing cost for the item will be deducted from your Fol total, and your characters' faces will indicate whether or not an item was created or not. THINGS TO REMEMBER: -Keep track of how many successful creations you've had in a given run. If you already have 15 of the item you're creating in your inventory, making more than 5 isn't possible, though you'll still pay for it if you attempt it. -Be careful when ending your run. If you press X and ask for an item submission, all items created on the run up to that point will be added to your inventory. However, if you abort using the circle button, or the quality gauge runs out, you lose all the items that you created in that run. -In "Specify Plan" mode or during Synthesis, the line is stopped automatically when the item has been refined successfully. -Also, during Synthesis, if you're infusing an item with more than one factor onto a weapon, you can determine which factors are imbued to the weapon by asking for submission at the right time. If there are two factors on the item and you only want the first to be transferred to the weapon, simply ask for submission after the first successful run. If you want both, let the line run until both of the required productions are completed. COMMUNICATING WITH THE GUILD ---------------------------- After you join the Guild, you can communicate with Welch Vineyard at any time by going to the camp screen and choosing the "Invention Info" option. From there you can check on various information regarding inventors, inventions, and you can even patent items you've created. Here's a basic outline of how to perform most of the tasks from the compact communicator: REGISTERING PATENTS ------------------- Any time you receive or create a new item, it's a good idea to check and see if you can patent it. When you patent an item, it's evaluated by the guild on a scale of 1-100, and added to their Invention List. From there, the item is distributed to various shops on Elicoor II, where you can buy them for one-fifth of their retail price (which is useful if you're in a tight situation). INVENTION INFO -------------- After you patent an item, you can check it out on the Invention List from the "Check Info" option on the main menu. You can see the item's inventor, its price, the number produced, its rarity, and its rating. THINGS TO REMEMBER: -If you found an item and patented it, Fayt is automatically listed as the inventor. -If you patent an item you made through item creation, the chracter who first made the item is credited as the inventor. -The price of the item is the basic cost used to determine what the item can be bought/sold for. -The rating is determined by the guild and influences the number of ranking points that are assigned to the inventor. RELEASING OF NEW PRODUCTS ------------------------- About five minutes after you patent an item, it should be released to the public. Time is suspended while you're in a town, however, so you can't just hang around your workshop and wait for the patent to go through. Go fight some battles or roam around and find the nooks and crannies on that map you need to complete, and your item will be processed before you know it. The cost that your item is sold for is determined by the following formula: BUY PRICE = BASIC PRICE x (1 + RARITY/100) Remember that items that you or your signed inventors have patented are sold to you for one-fifth of their original price. These items will be displayed in blue in shops and on the menu. The items that appear in white either can't be made through item creation, or have been patented by other, unsigned inventors. CREATOR RANKING --------------- The Guild keeps track of the rankings for each inventor who is registered with them. The following formula is used when determining ranking points: NUMBER OF ITEMS CREATED X ITEM EVALUATION VALUE = INVENTOR'S RANKING POINTS Also, these factors come into play: -When only one creator is on the line they receive all the ranking points. -When two creators are on the line, two-thirds of the points go to the creator, and one-third to the assistant. -When three creators are on the line, one-half of the points go to the creator, and one-fourth go to each of the assistants. REMUNERATION ------------ After you join the Guild, you'll begin receiving remunerations every 30 minutes that you spend in the field or in a dungeon. It won't seem like much at first, but when your characters and signed inventors increase in rank, the Fol will start rolling in. You can theoretically set all your signed inventors to "Standby," find a safe spot to stand in the field, and let the game running for a few hours and make money, but that's pretty cheap, ya know? CHANGE ORDER OPTION ------------------- You can order your signed inventors to either "Standby" mode or "Original Creation" mode. In "Standby" mode, they won't do anything. In "Original Creation" mode, however, they'll continue to invent as they did before you signed them, only now they'll be using your money. Well, that does it for the basics! Now onto the real meat and potatoes of the guide... the tables/charts/etc. Wheeeee! ----------------------------------- = = = PLAYABLE CHARACTER INFORMATION = = = ----------------------------------- Okay, here I'll list all the playable characters as well as their stats pertaining to item creation. Here's a bit of explanation: TIME- The increase or decrease the character brings to the time needed to create the item (expressed as a percentage). COST- The increase or decrease the character brings to the cost of creating the item (expressed as a percentage). TALENT LEVELS- Each playable character has a certain level of talent in all eight categories of item creation; these numbers represent that level (on a scale of 1-99).
